Copper Mountain Ski Vacation

Colorado is world renown for its breathtaking scenery and amazingly diverse ski resorts. Among the many resorts Colorado has to offer some being large operations such as Aspen or Vail get most of the international and national attention yet when visiting its smaller equally stunning resorts can offer more of a intimate experience with the Rockies.  One of these â??smallerâ??, mom and pop resorts nested in the Rockies is Copper Mountain.

When putting your package together consider one thing as extremely important, distance. Check how far your lodging, rental store, and airport is in relation to you resort. The closer the better but also the more expensive.

Copper as it usually called is located in Summit County, Colorado and is about 75 miles from Denver up the I-70.  Copper consists of two peaks above 12,000 feet and offers a huge vertical change. The base elevation of the resort is 9,712 feet and tops out at 12,313 feet. It has an impressive 125 ski runs, 21% of which are considered beginner, 25% intermediate, 36% advanced, and 18% for the experts. The terrain consists of 2,433 acres accessible by a state of the art ski lift system. With 22 total lifts: 5 high-speed chairs, 10 chairs, 6 surface chairs, 1 tubing makes getting around a snap. All this is terrain is packed with nearly 280 inches of snowfall a year. So expect fresh powder on your vacation, lots of it.

Because itâ??s a less known resort expect short lines and shorter wait times than you would at other Colorado resorts but donâ??t expect to be shorted on the experience its truly a world class experience.

When we think Colorado and world class ski resort often the first thing that comes to mind are the mega resorts like Aspen and Vail. However there are many â??smallerâ?? resorts that are just gems in the skiing world. Crested Butte is one of those. This article is to give you some basic information on Crested Butte and how to plan your next ski vacation to the Colorado Rockies.

First things first when putting together your vacation package, how much do you want to spend. Unfortunate as it is these things always boil down to cash in the end so weâ??ll start there.  When your looking around for your lodging at Crested Butte make sure to pull up a map and cross reference the location with the ski resort. Get the distance of the rental store and lodging to the resort. The closer all these are together the better for convenience sake however the pricier it will likely by. Try to strike a nice balance between distance and cost.

The mountain of Crested Butte in nested in Gunnison County, Colorado. It was originally a mining community and now holds the title of â??the last great Colorado ski townâ??.  The resort has a base elevation of 9,375 feet and a top elevation of 12,162 feet above sea level. There are 448 acres of terrain which span the whole of skier experience. So expect runs for all levels.

4)   Last but not least always check how far for rental store and lodging is in relation to your ski resort. Distance is convenience but often equals money.

So I’ll be giving my advice for how to plan your vacation.

Well congratulations on making the decision to go on a well deserved ski vacation. Skiing is one of the best and most relaxing ways to spend your hard earned time off. So now that you know what you want to do you need to figure out how to do it. First things first, how many guests are you going with and what kind of experience are your looking for? Are you traveling with your family or collage friends? This can be important for the atmosphere you want to create. If you’re going with the family a more secluded resort is probably your best option. If you are going with friends you might want to hit the slopes at a resort destination that has more lively nightlife and a town with nice bars and activities. One easy way to do this is look at a map, take a look at where the resort in Vermont your interested in going is in relation to any nearby towns. The closer you are to a bigger town the more likely it will be to have nightlife. It also doesn’t hurt to do a bit of research on that town to get an idea of what to expect.

The next thing to do is check into lodging. Depending on how much money you want to spend again take a look at a map. Figure out how far you think you want to drive (if at all) to the resort everyday. The closer you are to the resort the better however it will most likely be a bit more expensive. When you are looking at lodging ask about rooms available, what amenities it comes with, do you get a kitchen? Make sure to get their direct number in case something comes up.

When your looking into renting your ski’s location is key again. If there is a large town on the way to the resort your best bet would be to call these larger stores and set something up ahead of time. Larger stores away from the resort are more likely to give you a deal. If you want until your at the mountain and rent from store close to the resort expect to pay more.

Aspen

When your thinking about a ski vacation in the Rockies one place stands out above all else. Aspen. Its really the quintessential mountain skiing destination in the United States. For those of you who already decided that Aspen is where you taking your next vacation, congratulations. For the rest of you I hope this article will help you decide. For the most part this will be an informative article about the services and facilities and not my description of Aspen.

Located in the Pitkin County of Colorado Aspen’s ski area is just outside the town of Aspen. The resort actually consists of four mountains and their peaks, Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk. These peaks are not interconnected however there is a shuttle service that runs base to base for fairly easy access.  Aspen Mountain is actually a bit small compared to other ski resorts especially nearby Vail. It has a total of 673 Skiable acres at a base elevation of 7,945 feet and a top elevation of 11,212 feet, which is a respectable vertical change. The 673 acres covers 76 ski runs, the longest of which is 3 miles. The runs are split for 26% for experts, 26% for advanced and 48% intermediate. So Aspen may not be the best place to go if your just learning to ski or ride, of course they do have excellent ski teachers and a learning area. With an annually snowfall of around 300 inches expect lots of great snow and fresh powder. The ski lifts are state of the art with 8 total lifts: 1 gondola, 1 high speed quad chair, 1 high speed double, 1 quad, 2 double chars and 2 secondary lifts.

Ski resorts in Wyoming are extremely varied from the large world-class resorts with 5 star lodging and dining experience to the small mom and pop style resorts. No matter which type suits your fancy youâ??re sure to find it and more.  This article should help those of you looking for information on how to plan your trip and some basic facts about resorts and skiing in Wyoming.

First off I want to list the sorts in Wyoming: Antelope Butte, Big Horn, Grand Targhee, Hogadon, Jackson Hole, Sleeping Giant, Snow King, Snowy Range and White pine are your choices. The two extremes of the big gun resorts and mom and popâ??s would be Jackson Hole which is big and beautiful and Pine Creek, which is smaller but a great value. Most resorts in the state average around 400 inches of snowfall annually so there should be no lacking of fresh powder no matter which one you decide on.  Wyoming ratio of skiers to skiable acres is huge, so expect no crowding when you hit the slopes.

So after you decide which resort is for you, think about lodging. Grab or pull up a map of the resort and surrounding area. When youâ??re booking lodging take a look at how close the lodging is to the resort. This is important because distance often equals money. It also equals convenience. So you need to make a decision on how much you want to spend in relation to how far youâ??re willing to travel. Ski in ski out is of course the best choice. This refers to the ability with your lodging to be able to ski in and out; the lift should be right out your door (canâ??t beat that). However itâ??s a bit pricier. Other considerations with lodging are amenities. What do you get with your room? Is there a kitchen? Kitchens are nice especially with a ski in ski out place because you donâ??t have to eat at the resort when youâ??re skiing which should save some cash.

If you fly in you should decide to rent your gear. Taking oversized luggage on planes is a pain and costs a bit these days with extra bags running about 50 bucks each! So again look at a map and see how close the store your talking to is in relation to the resort. The closer the more expensive. See if there is a large town or city on the way to the resort that has a chain outdoor store. You can most likely find cheaper deals outside the ski towns from large chain stores.
